Our bodies have specialised mechanisms to deal with the many environmental substances we encounter on a daily basis, but they can become overwhelmed. Making better choices about what you put on your skin can go a long way towards better health.

We live in an environment these days that seems to throw many insults against our bodies. What we absorb, ingest and inhale is a plethora of substances, many of which can be harmful to our health.

Our bodies have specialised defences against these substances but when they are overwhelmed, trouble strikes and damage occurs, which can lead to an array of health problems.

What we put on our skin can be absorbed through our skin and into our blood system. From there it travels to the liver.

…these detoxifying organs have their limits, and when their weaponry is exhausted we run into trouble. Overloading our bodies with harmful substances that cannot be disarmed can result in damage to our cells and DNA. This can lead to poor health, disease and illness.

The liver is a vital, specialised organ with its own arsenal of defences against harmful substances. It’s primed with enzymes and processes that help transform potentially damaging substances into less harmful ones. Our kidneys, too, are important in this process, excreting from our bodies what we definitely do not want hanging around!

But, vital as they are, these detoxifying organs have their limits, and when their weaponry is exhausted we run into trouble. Overloading our bodies with harmful substances that cannot be disarmed can result in damage to our cells and DNA. This can lead to poor health, disease and illness.

That is why it is important to be aware of what we put on our skin, and its potential impact on our health. Being educated about which ingredients are harmful, or potentially harmful, and making better choices about what you put on your skin can go a long way towards better health.
