Give your feet a much needed pampering as we head into warmer weather! We give you 5 ultra simple steps that will have your footsies looking and feeling fresh and fabulous, as well as our top picks for the best Cruelty Free, Natural and Organic products to help you.

Sunny days are here! With our feet out of the socks and boots they’ve been locked up in all winter, we can finally let them loose into the fresh, sunny air!

But wait, if you’ve neglected your poor little tootsies a bit over winter, you’ll need to give them a pick-me-up before letting them loose in your gorgeous bare-toed slip-ons!

Follow this ultra simple home pedicure routine and you’ll be all set to step out with a spring in your step! Why not get a few friends over and enjoy some pampering time together?

1. A good soaking

My poor lawn here on the Gold Coast was as dry as the humour of a dad-joke, until we finally got some rain recently! It needed a good soaking, and it’s pretty much the same story for my feet.

First remove any old nail polish. Which reminds me, have you had a look at your nail polish remover lately? Most are notoriously packed with nasty fumes and ingredients that are completely unnecessary. If it’s high time you got hold of a less toxic alternative that works well, take a look at Hanami’s Nail Polish Remover and Remover Wipes.

Right, on to the soak! Pop your footsies into a warm soak for around 10 minutes while you relax in the lounge-room or out on the patio. This step not only helps rehydrate dry skin, but also softens your skin and nail cuticles. If you ask me, it’s just the simple relaxing pleasure of having my feet in a tub of scented warm water that makes this part so good.

So what’s the best thing to add to your soak? Well, it depends a bit on what takes your fancy.

Add a little of your favourite essential oil and enjoy the aroma, just as much as your feet will enjoy the nourishment. If you’re looking for something refreshing, try this fresh antibacterial blend of Eucalyptus, Lemon, Spearmint, Peppermint and Tea Tree in Little Innoscent’s Breathe Easy Essential Oil Blend. Don’t be misled by the title… this blend has many uses and is perfect for freshening up your toes in a soak. $20.00 for 10ml.

For aching and tired feet, I recommend Weleda’s Arnica Muscle Soak. It contains calming extracts of Arnica flowers and Birch leaves, as well as Rosemary and Lavender essential oils to relieve fatigue and weariness. It comes in a large 200ml size so this soak will go a long way not just for feet, but for baths, too. $34.95.

2. Nail trim

Tidy up your toenails using some clippers and an emery board to round the edges. Toenails often need extra attention around the cuticles, and Weleda’s Cuticle Softener Pen is great for this. It helps soften the cuticles and is expertly shaped to gently push them back. Of course, it will double as a hand nail essential, too. $17.95.

3. Scrub-a-dub-dub

Next, slough off dry and dead skin cells with a pumice stone and a good exfoliating scrub. I recommend the Sanctum Body Buff. It contains soothing Olive Leaf Extract to stimulate circulation, Chamomile Flower Extract which gently loosens and removes dead skin without irritation, and Oak Bark Extract to help regenerate damaged skin tissue. This product can be used all over, not just for feet. Certified Organic (OFC), 200g $16.95.

Another option is to use a dry salt scrub BEFORE your soak. Eco Tan Pink Himalayan Salt Scrub is amazing and invigorating. It combines healing pink Himalayan Salt with Coconut Oil, Peppermint and Lemongrass. This is an all over scrub that can be used to relieve dry skin, eczema, psoriasis and skin conditions. It is also perfect for preparing skin for tan or removing old tan. Certified Organic (OFC), 250ml $34.95.

Now rinse off your scrub, gently pat your fabulously soft feet dry and you’re ready for Step 4…

4. Foot rub

Seal in the moisture on your tender new skin with a fresh-scented, soothing balm or cream. Take a little time to massage well, especially if you have sore, aching feet! Here are three gorgeous options to moisturise and revitalise, including our budget pick:

Badger Foot Balm. An essential oil blend of Peppermint, Tea Tree and Rosemary to cool and refresh tired feet. Certified Organic (USDA). $21.95.

Weleda Foot Balm. A non-greasy and instantly cooling balm. Contains moisturising Olive Oil and soothing Calendula Extract. 75ml $21.95.

Budget pick: Lavera Basis Foot Cream. Contains Organic Macadamia and healing Clay for long-lasting moisture, soft and supple skin. Quickly absorbed, refreshing and deodorising. 75ml $14.50.

5. A splash of toxin-free colour

Last but not least, finish off with some toxin-free nail colour. When it comes to nail polish, don’t take the risk with the toxic ingredients found in most commercial brands. At Earthrose, we use Hanami Nail Polishes, made using a ‘7-Free’ Formula. This means they are free from 7 toxic ingredients: toluene, formaldehyde, DBP, camphor, formaldehyde resin, ethyl tosylamide and xylene. Hanami contain organic plant and mineral ingredients and are Vegan.

The favourite trends for this Spring include colours like Crave You, Purple Rain, Soft Delay, Pale Grey Eyes. But hey, skip the trends and just pick the colour you like best!
