Life for most of us is full of challenges. We all too often find that ‘life’ is getting in the way of ‘living’! Challenged by years of health problems including thyroid dysfunction, allergies, skin complaints, lethargy and weight gain, I found myself fast approaching my 60th birthday with dread. Having decided my priority had to be to regain my health, I took an early retirement from full-time teaching and began my quest to seek well-being.
As a teacher, I knew that the value of education and knowledge could not be underestimated. I needed to seek answers to my health problems in a new way. And so began a profound journey for me.
What I discovered along the way alarmed and disturbed me! Most of the products I was using on my body and in my home, as well as the food I was consuming, were full of harmful chemicals that were well-known to cause many of the symptoms that I was experiencing. No longer could I trust the ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ claims that were being marketed on store shelves.
I slowly began to replace my skin care and beauty products with toxin-free alternatives. Cleaning products were targeted too. My diet, which consisted of many processed foods, was changed to one of fresh, mainly organic produce, primarily sourced from my local Farmer’s Market and Health Food stores. Whilst I see myself as still a ‘work in progress’, I no longer take my health for granted!
Not only have I now regained my health and my long lost energy levels but my skin is brighter and more youthful! The teacher in me, naturally, desired to share my knowledge with anyone and everyone. What I found was that I had struck a chord! Rather than just politely listen, family and friends enthusiastically sought to know more about my research. There was a need for knowledge. What products can we use? Which ones do we avoid? How can I find time to look at labels when I’m busy shopping? Thus began the Earthrose story.
Teaching is more than imparting knowledge, it is inspiring change
